The black color on your boat is probably gelcoat and not paint. Although, I think it is possible to paint over gelcoat, I believe that some type of primer would have to be applied first to make it stick. You may be better off finding matching gelcoat to make the repair. There are a number of companies that carry a wide variety of gelcoat colors, and you could probably get a color guide to help you make the match.
You can spray gelcoat just like paint, and it is not hard to do with fairly simple equipment. Just like paint, the key to a good job is surface preparation. There are a number of online guides to applying gelcoat, or making a gelcoat repair.2010 Hurricane 2100 (217) Sun Deck
