Adding speakers to my SD 2000

Last summer I got tired of having to crank up my stereo way up in the boat just so we could hear the music when we are hanging out in the water behind the boat. So I'm adding speakers to the back bulkhead between the outboard and the ski pylon of my SD 2000 aiming toward the stern. I'm putting a a/b speaker switch which is going to allow me to toggle the original rear speakers and the new stern speakers. My boat is currently shrink wrapped and was wondering what the standard size speakers are already in the boat. I'm guessing 6.5. Also wanted to check and see if anyone else has tried this and if anyone thinks there will be any structural issues with cutting two 6.5 inch holes in that area with the retractable ski pylon.

Right in front of the outboard is where I am planning on adding the speakers one on the right and one on the left...

Personally I would not have the guts to cut in to the fiberglass on that part of the boat. But that's just me worrying that it will kill a lot of resale value.

Nothing to worry about. If you ordered the Thunder and Lightening package from the factory, they would have installed these in the same place you want too. Also you can get the matching grills from here. http://www.itc-marine.com/product/stainless-steel-speaker-cover/

Shouldn't be any concerns structurally and while I don't know that model of Hurricane, I'd be surprised if could remove the seat back and also have an access port behind it which will make wiring in that area a little easier.------------------------------------------------------------------------------2010 Hurricane SS 188 OB

Speakers were installed and I am posting a picture picture. nothing a couple beers and a hole saw will do. Added an A/B speaker switch so I can turn off the rear speakers inside the boat and turn on the rear speakers (outside the boat). They sound great!

Thanks. It took a lot of measuring and some nerve. Found the covers online, they are the exact covers as my others. The A/B switch to turn them off and on is great. We spent the first day on the boat with them yesterday and the music could be heard clearly on the beach...2012 Hurricane SD2000

From the deck? Or just run off rear speaker? Where did you put the A/B switch? Is it necessary. -

I am not sure what speakers I used...marine grade. I mounted the switch inside the "bathroom" and just ran the wires under the floor...not hard...2012 Hurricane SD2000
