Access to fuel sender 2011 187 Sundeck

We recently purchased a 2011 sundeck 187, the fuel gauge is not working, the fuel sender is disconnected (no wires at all going to the gauge). Unfortunately, I cannot access the fuel sender. I can see it from the back hatch near the transom seating, but it is too far aft to remove from the fuel tank. The sender itself is actually half way under the edge of the back molded cooler recess between the seats. I am trying to figure out if this is a very poor design flaw or if the fuel tank has somehow shifted aft and if I could possibly push is forward to access the sender. Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks
