Is it a good idea to have one "starting" battery and one "Deep Cycle" battery in a two battery setup?

I personally use 2 optima blue top deep cycle / starting batteries. I was using one starting and one deep cycle, but winter of 14 I had left a few things turned on in the boat. The starting battery was toast and wasn't able to bring it back to hold a charge. The optima batteries cost more, but chances are you won't ever have to replace 1. I have a 2 yellow tops that I still use that was purchased in 2008 for a competition car audio system in my truck. I use them in my 2 work trucks daily.
